How did Oscar & Izzy get started? In late 2009, ABC’s Extreme Makeover Home Edition approached Philadelphia-based designer Amy Mescia with a challenge: to give light to the kitchen of a young mother whose husband had passed away literally as she was delivering their first baby. Amy’s task was to create a bold and spirited backsplash that instantly brightens and enlivens the space. The result was so gratifying and the response such a hit that Amy soon decided to make these (and more!) tiles available to the public.

From the get go, it has been our mission is to make rooms and the people in them happier. We realize it sounds a little corny, but it’s the truth. Oscar & Izzy ceramics are individual works of art. We believe in the potency of color and design to affect moods and to create inviting and inspiring spaces.

We like to combine the feel of the old and the new, and to apply modern takes to old methods of production. It’s our way to touch the past and brighten the future, one tile at a time. Our work currently delivers unique and customizable bursts of color and character in homes across the U.S., Europe and Australia. 

Oscar & Izzy is a culmination of the inspiration taken from family history and local PA traditions – along with an eye toward Scandinavian designs. Our passion is to preserve these connections to the past and use them to push us forward, brightly. Our tiles are, proudly, 100% Made in the USA, and we are proud to say so.
